Display

Resolution, fit and scale, three settings that are never called by each other's names.

Three words

Word What it is Example
Resolution The size of the remote desktop, in pixels. 1920 × 1080
Fit How that desktop sits in your tab. Fit to tab
Scale How large the remote computer draws its own text and windows. It is the remote computer's own Settings › Display › Scale. 100%

All three are on the session's toolbar, at the bottom of the session, and in the Session menu. All three can be changed while the session is running.

Resolution

  • Match this tab: the remote desktop takes the size of the tab, and follows it when the tab's size changes.
  • A size from the list, or Custom…: the remote desktop has exactly that size, whatever the size of the tab.

A size set on a connection (in its properties) is kept: PluggedDesk does not replace it with the size of the tab.

Changing the resolution of a running session needs the server's cooperation. Where the server does not offer it, or keeps its size, the toolbar says so and offers Reconnect at 1920 × 1080.

A choice made on the toolbar belongs to the tab, and survives the tab's reconnects. To make it permanent, set it in the connection's properties.

Fit

  • Fit to tab: the desktop is drawn as large as the tab allows, keeping its proportions.
  • Actual pixels (1:1): one remote pixel is one pixel of your screen. If the desktop is larger than the tab, you see a part of it.

F11 shows the session on the whole screen.

Scale

Automatic is 100% for any desktop up to 1920 × 1080, and steps up for larger ones so that text stays readable:

Resolution Automatic scale
up to 1920 × 1080 100%
2560 × 1440 125%
3840 × 2160 200%

You can choose a scale yourself, for a connection (in its properties) or for a running session (on the toolbar).

The scale of your own screen decides nothing here. A laptop set to 200% gets a remote desktop at 100% when the remote desktop is 1920 × 1080.
