Changelog

What changed, release by release

Each entry says what was added, what was fixed and what is known not to work yet. PluggedDesk offers you a new release by itself; you can also get it from the downloads page.

  1. PluggedDesk 0.5.0

    stable

Tabs in groups, split side by side and moved to windows of their own; colour themes after Visual Studio Code's; signing in to PluggedHub with Exprezoe Identity; a license; updates from this site.

    New

    • Tabs and groups. Right-click a tab: Close, Close All, Close Others, Close to the Right, Pin, Split Right, Split Down, Split and Move, Move into New Window, Copy into New Window. Drag a tab along its group, to another group, to an edge of a group to make a new one there, or out of the window to give it a window of its own; hold Ctrl to copy instead of move. Double-click a tab to give its group the whole window. See Tabs and groups.
    • One session, two views. A split or a copy shows the same session twice. The first view decides the remote desktop's size; the others fit it to their own tab.
    • Pinned tabs come first and are not closed by Ctrl W, the middle button or the bulk closes.
    • The arrangement is remembered, other windows included, and comes back without connecting anything.
    • Colour themes: Dark Modern, Light Modern, or as Windows is set (View › Color Theme). See Appearance.
    • Signing in to PluggedHub with Exprezoe Identity, in your own browser. PluggedDesk never sees your password. See Signing in.
    • Help › License: activate with a license key, give the seat back, or, at Exprezoe, sign in instead of a key.
    • Updates come from this site, to activated installations, on the channel you follow. See Updates.
    • Keyboard: Ctrl F4, Ctrl Tab, Ctrl \, Ctrl 1 to 4, Ctrl Alt → and ←. See Keyboard shortcuts.
    • Third-party notices are installed beside the application, as THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt.

    Fixed

    • Without the keyboard hook (a connection that keeps the Windows keys on this computer), a shortcut typed into a session was taken by PluggedDesk: Ctrl W ended the session instead of reaching the remote computer. Every key typed into a session is now the remote computer's.
    • A view whose session had just ended could keep the window busy.
    • File › Exit, the close button and Alt F4 ended every open session without a word. While a session is live they now ask first, and Esc keeps the sessions. Windows signing out or shutting down is not held up by the question.
    • A screen reader heard most buttons called after a part of the program ("PluggedDesk.App.Controls.Icon"). Every button is now named by the words it shows, or by its tooltip when it shows only an icon.

    Known not to work yet

    • Nothing here has been signed in against Exprezoe Identity, PluggedHub and this site as they are set up today: their side is being prepared. Until it is, Sign in with Exprezoe Identity answers that PluggedHub does not offer signing in from PluggedDesk yet, and nothing else changes. Remote Desktop connections do not need it.
    • The installer is not signed with a publisher certificate. Verify the download.
    • An accepted certificate is not remembered. See Certificates.
    • Only the Windows build exists.

    From 0.4.0

0.4.0 reads a different update channel and cannot sign in to this one. Install 0.5.0 by hand, once; from then on, updates arrive by themselves. Your workspace, your settings and your remembered credentials are kept.

  2. PluggedDesk 0.4.0

    stable

Menus in the title bar, a toolbar under every session, a side bar that folds away, a remote display scale of its own, and updates that PluggedDesk finds and verifies itself.

    New

    • Menus in the title bar: File, Edit, View, Session, Help. Every entry runs a command, and every shortcut shown beside an entry is one the window answers.
    • No ribbon. Each action lives where its object is. A session's actions are on its own toolbar, at the bottom of the session. The workspace's are on the Explorer's WORKSPACE header and in right-click menus.
    • A side bar that folds away, with Explorer and Search. Ctrl B hides it; its width and whether it is open are remembered.
    • Remote display scale. 100% by default up to 1920 × 1080, and changeable during a session. It is no longer taken from the scaling of your own screen.
    • Updates. PluggedDesk finds, verifies and installs new releases itself (Help › Check for Updates).
    • An application icon on the taskbar, in Start and in the installer.

    Fixed

    • The title bar did not answer to the mouse or the keyboard.
    • Esc did not close a menu that had been opened with the mouse.
    • The window could open larger than a screen with a high display scale.
    • A session kept the keyboard while one of PluggedDesk's own menus was open.
    • A tooltip on a session's toolbar could take the next click.

    Known not to work yet

    • The installer is not signed with a publisher certificate. Verify the download.
    • An accepted certificate is not remembered. See Certificates.
    • Only the Windows build exists.

    Moving on from 0.4.0

This version reads a different update channel from later ones and cannot sign in to the new one. Install the next version by hand, once; from then on, updates arrive by themselves. See Updates.
